U17 Britbowl National Plate and Championship finals
Sunday, July 21, 2019
The U17 Britbowl National Plate and Championship finals will take place at Stourbridge Rugby Club on Saturday 10 August, where the top 16 youth teams in the nation will battle it out for honours.
There were some tight finishes – none more so than in the North where there was a three-way tie for second place with Chester edging out the two Manchester teams. Taking into account W/L/T records, forfeits, head to heads and average point conceded the final 16 have been confirmed.
U17 National Plate Finals
The event starts with the Plate finals in the morning, featuring four second-place finishers from the six U17 youth contact conferences, as well as the four third-place finishers with the best records. The four second-placed teams are Yorkshire Assassins, Solent Seahawks, Birmingham Lions and Edinburgh Napier Knights. They will be joined by Cobham Cougars, Manchester Titans South, Etone Jaguars and Lincolnshire Bombers.
Kicking off at 1030, all teams will play three rounds of fixtures, starting with the highest seeds playing the lowest in a quarter-final, then a winners vs winners semi-final round and ranking rounds for the knocked-out teams. The event culminates in a final game between the two undefeated teams at 2.45pm. The first games and seedings are set as follows:
- #9 Yorkshire Assassins v #16 Lincolnshire Bombers
- #10 Solent Seahawks v #15 Etone Jaguars
- #11 Birmingham Lions v #14 Manchester Titans South
- #12 Edinburgh Napier Knights v #13 Cobham Cougars
U17 Championship Finals
The National Plate finals will be followed by the Championship tournament where the six conference winners and the two best-placed runners up will compete. This year’s conference winners are the unbeaten Tamworth Phoenix, Hertfordshire Cheetahs and Highland Wildcats who are joined by Gateshead Senators, Kent Exiles and Chorley Bucanneers. The second-placed teams joining them are Essex Spartans and Chester Romans.
The U17 Britbowl championship event gets underway at 1500, following the same knock out structure as the earlier Plate final. The championship final takes place at 7.15pm. The first games and seedings are set as follows:
- #1 Tamworth Phoenix v #8 Chester Romans
- #2 Hertfordshire Cheetahs v #7 Essex Spartans
- #3 Highland Wildcats v #6 Chorley Buccaneers
- #4 Gateshead Senators v #5 Kent Exiles
Congratulations to all the finalists!
