Just the three games in the top tier this weekend. Can Tamworth finally, mathematically clinch the Premier North conference?
East Kilbride Pirates vs Lancashire Wolverines
The Pirates are set to face Division One bound Lancashire Wolverines in what is a must win for both teams. With EKP struggling, the Wolverines will look to notch up a win for the first time this season.
The Pirates have not looked like their usual strong self as of late. They have struggled both offensive and defensively, and after being thoroughly beaten by the Nighthawks, will look to do some end the season on a high.
Meanwhile the Wolverines are only really playing for pride now. They have one more game left in the season, against the Wolves, and will be looking to get at least one win in what is a season to forget for the side. At times during the season Lancashire looked promising pushing the Nighthawks and only being shut out once, against Tamworth. But they seemed to just not being about to plug the whole fast enough to stop the ship from sinking.
Both teams have struggled this season but EKP have shown they have the talent to put it points. It will come down to who really wants it more. EKP to win.
Tamworth Phoenix vs Sheffield Giants
Having escaped the threat of relegation the Giants are looking to continue their momentum as they take on the unstoppable Tamworth Pheonix.
The ‘Nix will be coming to the game looking strong after their steller performance against the Wolves.
Elliott Walters had a quiet game but that didn’t make much difference to the strong Nix offence. Pat Daley continued his string of standout performances, along with Adam Hope showing the depth of talent on the Nix offense. On the defensive side of the ball Tamworth looked strong as usual, with Daniel Hampton getting a pick, on his birthday, and Daniel Shodipo also playing well.
The Giants have their work cut out for them. It will take everything they have to break down the Tamworth defence. Anything can happen on Sunday. We’ve been upsets happen before and I like everyone else love and underdog story.
However, the Giants are going to have to shut down one of the most explosive offences in the conference and find holes in an extremely strong defence. I do not see this happening. Nix to win.
Bristol Aztecs vs Bury Saints
This week sees the penultimate game for the Aztecs and the final game of the season for the Saints. After last weekend’s disappointing loss to the Knights it will be interesting to see how the Saints travel this weekend. The Saints haven’t won a game since June and they will be feeling disappointed at ending their first Premiership Season as a losing one. We’ve unconfirmed reports of the Saints travelling with low numbers last weekend so whether they will travel well this weekend remains to be seen but I think this season has been a tough one for the Saints.
The Aztecs will be looking to get wins from their next two games and finish the season on a 5-5 record. This weekend sees them play their final home game of the season and this should give them the home field advantage. After a loss, that didn’t come as a big surprise, to the Warriors on the weekend the Aztecs will be bouncing back against the two teams that sit lower than them on the table.
The Aztecs have struggled the past couple of weeks with a few injuries so if they can get their numbers back up this weekend they should find that they pick up another confident win against the Saints. I think the Aztecs will win this one.
