BAFA NL ’19 | Under 17’s Results Week Thirteen

Week Thirteen was a lively one as we saw some hugely consequential scorelines across the six conferences in action!

While we didn’t see many crowns secured on this occasion, certain teams did see their postseason dreams scuppered by the weekend’s results, while others ensured they’ll see some form of postseason action… we just need to wait and see whether it’ll be competing for the #Britbowl33 Title, or the National Plate.

Already locked in as Scottish Champions, the Highland Wildcats completed an undefeated campaign with two wins and a walkover, while the Edinburgh Napier Knights rounded out their debut season with a playoff-clinching victory over the East Kilbride Pirates. For the defending National Champs, their title is certainly lost to them and there’ll now be a nervous wait for the final fixtures for the other conferences in a fortnight’s time to see whether they see postseason football at all!

In the North East, though the League Republic tables might not have shown it immediately, the Gateshead Senators look to have wrapped up an undefeated campaign with an 11-0-1 record – big wins getting even bigger as the season went on!

Following withdrawals, there was only a single fixture to play out in the North, with the Manchester Titans’ North roster getting the better of the Romans to look well-positioned for some playoff football.

In the Midlands, the Birmingham Lions impressed with a 3-0 day, but it was also great to see some hotly contested scorelines between the other outfits, as the games between the Bulls, Steelers and Blackhawks were all decided by a score or less, providing great entertainment for fans and neutrals.

Looking to the South, and there were some surprising results out of this tournament as all four teams eventually came away with at least a win – the young Poole Dolphins programme, in particular, impressing with a win over the Seahawks. That said, the day belonged to the Hertfordshire Cheetahs,  who came away with three comfortable wins that see them undefeated at 9-0 going into their final regular-season fixtures, hot favourites for a high seeding come the finals!

And finally, in the South East it was a full house of wins for the #TealTide as the Essex Spartans took three clutch victories away from their final tournament of the regular season. Their 10-2-0 record currently puts them top of the table, but with games still to play the Crown’s not Essex’s just yet!

Perhaps their most impressive scoreline was a 13-27 win over the previously undefeated Cobham Cougars, though the Spartans will be frustrated to have come up a tantalising single point short of stealing the head-to-head advantage over the Cougars. Credit to hosts, the London Warriors, who easily put in their best performances of the summer, even if it did only result in a single win – running the Cougars close and fending off a strong challenge from a similarly much-improved Wembley Stallions.
