In a game that was deadlocked through much of the first three quarters, the Northern Blizzard have claimed the 2019 Diamond Series title with a 22-12 victory over a Southern Blaze side that came into the game boasting around twice the number of sign-ups.
With the two teams tied at 6 points-a-piece in the third quarter, a flurry of late scores saw the Diamond Series title head north, as the Blizzard took a lead, the Blaze bit back, but then the North drove forth for two more scores to come away with the win.
Considering both teams came into the game with only three training sessions to mould a roster out of disparate additions from teams all across the Britball Nation, with many players who’d never so much as taken a snap of 11-a-side action before, the standard set at the game displayed just how far the women’s game has come.
Players learned new playbooks, working with coaches and teammates they were previously unfamiliar with to build bonds across the British game, with this year’s rosters including additions from expansion outfits such as the Essex Hellcats and Hereford Stampede.
The focus of the Women’s game now turns to the IFAF European Championships held in Leeds later this summer, and odds are there could well be some new names who get a shot at being added to the GB roster following strong performances on Saturday!
