#BNAs2017 | Best Dressed Baller 2017

Jason Selormey

Portsmouth Destroyers, London Blitz, GB Lions

The Pompey President and Captain does indeed seem to prove that there’s a direct relationship between swag and ability – one of the Nation’s top defensive backs had a highly successful 2017 – Portsmouth saw back to back promotion, Blitz headed to Britbowl once again, and a call up to the National roster to face Sweden round out an impressive year for this impressively dressed baller.

  • Bicep bands (multiple)

Colchester Gladiators fan favourite, Josh Milgate picked up both the Supporters Award ad Defensive MVP awards for the Glads this year, with whispers that he’s also courting L’Oreal sponsorship for his glorious locks. The linebacker’s shown clear development of his swag since his time at university, adding extra facets to his game.

The new ‘face of the franchise’ for the Birmingham University Lions, comes into the BUCS league off the back of a successful 2017 – leading the Birmingham Lions Juniors to a National Trophy Victory. A threat both on the ground and in the air, the young QB’s swag is rumoured to have been a major contributing factor in the Lions’ improving form – an impressive offensive performance inflicting the first loss of the year on the Hurricanes to put the Lions right back in the mix in the Prem South.

Sandwell Steelers Secondary

We could have probably picked any one of this player group and they’d have been in the running… but combined, they’re certainly serious contenders for this award! While the Steelers were disappointed to not see promotion in 2017, the squad still managed five shut outs through their 2017 campaign, in a large part thanks to the swaggiest secondary in Britball.

Swag ‘plays’ in 2017:
  • Sleeves
  • Sweatbands
  • Bicep bands (multiple)
  • Loose untucked under-tee
  • Baggy sleeved under-tee
  • Exposed knees
  • ‘Calf’ bands

Will Johnson

Leeds Beckett Carnegie

It seems only fitting that a team that so exceeded expectations in 2017 should have a baller who goes above and beyond in the swag stakes. Yet another defensive back nominee (we thing it’s a confidence think to compensate for their inability to catch) Johnson and the Carnegie secondary ensured opposition were never able to outpace Leeds’ on the scoreboard through their National Title campaign in 2017.

Swag ‘plays’ in 2017:
  • Visor
  • Sleeves
  • Sweat bands
  • Bicep bands (multiple)
  • ‘Calf’ bands
  • Hand warmer
  • Towel
  • Egregious eye black

Before we get to the winner, we’d also like to note a couple of Honourable Mentions:

Jon Green, Doncaster MustangsĀ

For this festive little number during training:

Nathan Jewkes, Chester Romans

For this swagalicious custom lid decor, with gold trim to match gold gloves and boots:

And the winner isā€¦

Spoiler

Will Johnson, Leeds Beckett Carnegie

Even with a fair portion of the Sandwell secondary on our staff and voting for themselves (!) the Carnegie Cornerback ran away with this one!

Congrats Mr Johnson on your commitment to accessorising your game!

We here at DC, salute you!

(You may not be able to see it through the rain on your visor though…)
