Britball Nation Awards 2016

2016 has been a big year for Double Coverage. We’ve got new owners, new staff, new goals and lots of new content!

However, DC would simply be shouting into the void were it not for you guys, the Britball Nation.

As such, as we approach the end of the calendar year, at this festive time of giving, we wanted to give something back to all the Ballers, on and off the field, that make this sport what it is.

DC have done awards before, but not on this scale, so we’re hoping programmes and individuals across the ‘Nation will get on board to nominate, submit tape, and vote in the variety of categories we’re offering up awards for this year.

What is more, there’s more than just pride to play for this December, as we’ve worked with our friends at EP Sports and JaguarsUK to offer actual prizes for some of the more prestigious categories!

Welcome to the Britball Nation Awards 2016!

So… What are the Britball Nation Awards?

The Britball Nation Awards are an opportunity for we at DC to help raise the profile of individuals and groups of home grown #ballers out there across the UK. The awards feature a mixture of categories, from the comical to the more prestigious, to help us celebrate all-things-Britball that have gone on across Great Britain throughout 2016.

We should note: The awards look at the calendar year of 2016, January to December, so submissions and nominations will be relevant to a full breadth of Britball formats played through this period – and yes, this includes both the latter half of the 15/16 Uniball season, and the first half of the current season.

Ok, how do I win one?

This year’s awards are being broken down into four core formats:

i) #TeamDC Selections
This will mostly be the smaller awards, often looking at the more amusing events of the past year, field fashion disasters, or things that have really stood out in the minds of those behind the scenes here at DC Towers. We’ll whittle down a shortlist of nominees and select our winner.

ii) ‘Nation Nominations
This covers some of the biggies – where we’ll be looking for the BritballNation to step up and nominate individuals, teams, or entire programmes who they think have stood out this year.

We’ll supply criteria for each category, and you simply fill in our online form ahead of the deadline, before this is referred to a panel of both DC Staff and well-respected members of the Britball Community to shortlist and select the winners.

Many of these Awards, especially those looking at the performance/achievements of individuals through 2016, will come with prizes from our friends at EP Sports and Jaguars UK.

In cases where there are sufficient submissions, the awards will be broken down by format – Adult, Women’s, University, and Cadet/Youth/Junior.

iii) Video Submissions
As the name implies, everyone from across the Nation will have the opportunity to submit footage of plays from any BAFA-approved league fixture that took place through 2016.

There are four core categories here for which we will be accepting game tape submissions: Play of the Year (Overall, offensive, defensive), Catch of the Year, Rush of the Year and BOOM! of the Year.

So long as you find away to get tape to us ahead of the deadline – either via HUDL/Krossover/YouTube/One Drive/Google Drive/We Transfer/Drop Box/Owl/Facebook and state which category you are submitting for? We will watch it, short list those that really stand out to us, and offer the top plays up for public vote!

As above, in cases where there are sufficient submissions, the awards will be broken down by format – Adult, Women’s, University and Cadet/Youth/Junior.

iv) The Nation’s Choice
For very particular awards, we will not only look for you, the Britball Nation, to submit nominations – but also select the winners themselves!

For our Programme of the Year and #BritballLove awards we will be looking for true standout candidates.  If necessary, we will shortlist the nominees, but our hope is to share the full nomination information with the ‘Nation and let you guys vote on who you believe was the best programme in the Britball Nation through 2016, and which team/programme/individual best represents the spirit of #BritballLove – with their charity and community work, using football as a means to give back to those around them.

Right, lets get cracking then, where do I submit my nomination?

Full details of categories, formats and submission deadlines will be released tomorrow, Saturday 17 December.

In most cases you will have until midnight 24 December  to nominate/submit tape, before Santa whisks all that Britball goodness over to us at DC Towers.

Awards decided by public vote will be then be shortlisted, shared, and opened for votes and voting deadlines announced. We will be looking to announce one or two awards each day building up to and into the New Year, to ensure your January is not bereft of Britball even if there’s nowt taking place on the field.

That’s all the info for now, but best start nagging your ‘media guy’ and figuring out who the most literate member of your programme is for when nominations open tomorrow!
