Britbowl XXXI Hero, Ben Davies, Announced as UoNAF DC

One of the big surprises of the 16/17 Uniball season was when the much-improved University of Nottingham American Football team, stocked with scholarship talent both domestic and imported, failed to reach the top tier of BUCS Britball.

This was one of the factors that saw the departure of long-term Head Coach, Phil Wood, and there were some concerns what this shake up might mean for a programme for which there were now great expectations.

However, earlier this year it was announced that Tamworth Phoenix Defensive Coordinator, Jason Scott, who’s had a wealth of experience coaching both senior and university football and on both sides of the pond, would be taking on the Head Coach role at the rising star of Midlands Uniball.

Following Coach Scott’s appointment, alongside leading the Tamworth Phoenix Defence through their first ever National Championship campaign, Coach Scott has begun to assemble his coaching staff, some key components of which were announced this week.

Ben Davies, Loughborough Students alum whose name was on everyone’s lips these past weeks thanks to his victory-sealing pick six in the fourth quarter of Britbowl XXXI, was announced this week as the new Defensive Coordinator.

Further, just yesterday, UoNAF announced legendary Britball running back,¬†Deji Alli, as Running backs coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Alli won four National Championships as part of the London Blitz, before joining Coach Scott at the Phoenix to pick up a fifth winner’s medal this year against his former side.

With the BUCS 17/18 regular season schedule believed¬†to be released today, it’s fair to say expectations of the Nottingham outfit will be rather high this year!
