#Britbowl31 | Head Coach Interview – Damian Anderson, London Blitz

Who are you and what’s your coaching background?

Damian Anderson, London Blitz (Adult) Head Coach. This is my second season as London Blitz (Adult) Head Coach, after 8 previous years as London Blitz (Adult) Defensive Co-ordinator.

Other coaching roles? I was Great Britain Lions Junior Head Coach 2010-2016 and Greenwich Mariners Defensive Coordinator 2006-08.

How did you get into coaching American Football?

I got into the sport as a kid; started playing on Streatham Common with the ‘Streatham’ Olympians.

I played Linebacker for about 20 years (Junior & Adult), but when time took its toll, I just found coaching to be the natural progression.

Who’s your coaching hero?

Not sure I have a ‘hero’ at coaching. I’ve read articles, stolen schemes, and learnt from numerous coaches.

Someone I’d like to meet and have a beer with is Dick LeBeau.

If we were to keep it closer to home and BAFA, then I’d say I admire the coaches I coach with currently, as I know how many hours they put into preparation. Duncan Burford, DC, and Stuart Miller, OC, put a helluva lot of time and effort into preparing our team and making my job a lot easier.

What’s your coaching dream?

I’m a BAFA head coach, aren’t I already living the dream??

What’s the single most important quality for a British American Football coach, in your opinion?

In my opinion it’s the same quality as any coach – ‘honesty’. Be it with yourself or with your players/coaches.

You’re going to have to stand by every decision you make, and if you don’t believe in the decision you make your screwed.

…ha, reading your next section… the honesty thing seems appropriate.

And now the quick fire round! Answer as quickly as possible, we trust you to be honest 😉
