Cobham Cougars Announce Expansion to Second Youth Team!

The trials and tribulations of the Britball Nation as they struggle to get to grips with the necessity of youth football are well documented.

We often hear the adage that every Adult team should have a Youth team, but speaking with a true great of the Britball Nation they shared the insight that perhaps the way we should be thinking about it is that every Youth team should have an Adult team.

To make the sport sustainable, the priority has to be placed on developing the grass roots… and thus the success story of the Cobham Cougars well deserves to be put upon a pedestal!

The Cougars announced this week that they will be entering TWO teams into the BAFANL youth league in 2017.

Per Cobham Cougars Head Coach, Scott Barlow on their Facebook page:

COBHAM COUGARS – I AM THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A 2ND COBHAM COUGARS U17 TEAM FOR THE 2017 SEASON !

Due to the rapid rise of local youth who wish to play American Football in and around the Cobham area, we have made the decision to assess the feasibility of successfully establishing a second team. In the end, we felt that if a minimum of 40 players (maximum of 46) players were committed to playing, we would ensure the financing, equipment and coaching support would be put in place to establish a second team. As such, we will have a BLUE and WHITE team. Both teams will practice/play at ACS Cobham during the season and each will be run by a separate and independent set of coaches. More to follow in the weeks ahead as we announce the Head Coach and his staff of the Cobham Cougars White team. BE HUMBLE, STAY HUNGRY !

With a number of youth programmes dropping from the league last year, it’s great news that in the Cobham area at least, the game continues to grow at the grass roots!
