Former Calanda Broncos and Oklahoma Sooner defensive back come running back DJ Wolfe, signed yesterday with the Swarco Raiders, but will only compete for the Raiders in the newly formed BIG 6 European Football League.
Having won three Swiss Bowls with the Broncos, the leagues perennial powerhouse, as well as being named MVP of the Eurobowl in 2012, Wolfe comes with the reputation as one of Europe’s elite players and his addition is a big statement from the Raiders of their intent in Europe after falling short last year to their domestic rivals, the Raiffeisen Vikings.
With no restriction on the amount of dual passport players allowed in BIG 6 competition, the Raiders are putting the pieces in place for a title run. With the addition of John van den Raadt at quarterback, the Raiders will be looking to use last year’s quarterback Kyle Callahan as a wide receiver, whilst giving Wolfe the carries from the tailback spot. With his college career having been spent in the defensive backfield, Wolfe will most likely go ironman on the BIG 6 and double up at either corner or safety, an area where the Raiders were weak against the Vikings last season.
