Why the DSA Combine?
DSA has the longest running and most established Combine programme in the UK. They’ve worked with Football America UK, IMG Academy, Under Armour, and Xtreme Procision (amongst others) for the last 8 years. In addition, DSA has an incredible record of promoting UK talent to the US, with over 20 athletes placed in colleges, junior colleges, and high schools, directly via the DSA Combine and International Recruitment Program.
As an established event running for over 8 years, DSA can attract top quality talent to come and coach, such as this year Jason Brisbane (ex-NFL San Diego Chargers), who will be leading the LB group, and Stephen Hutchinson, ex-London Monarchs (NFL Europe) and Hamburg Blue Devils, who will be leading the RBs.
Football America UK is a fantastic and longstanding supporter of the Combine series, and will be providing high-quality training tops and shorts to each participant.
The DSA Combine is the closest you can get to the professional version – DSA uses laser-timing equipment to measure each athlete’s sprints to the 100th of a second, and has the same model of Vertec machine used by the NFL to measure vertical leap.

What happens at a Combine?
Capturing athletes’ physical metrics is key. Not only for athletes wanting to track their own development and see what needs focus within their training to improve, but it is the first thing US coaches evaluate when we place student-athletes to the US.
At the Combine, the following will be measured:
- 10 & 40-yard dash
- Vertical Leap
- Pro Agility (aka 5-10-5)
- 3 Cone
- Broad Jump
- Powerball Throw
- Height & Weight
Football work will include positional work with top coaches, and Run and Pass skelly’s which give athletes an opportunity to put their new skills into practice, as well as challenge yourself against some of the best from across the UK.
Skelly’s are filmed and available to all participants after the event.
Why do a Combine?
The main reason that the professionals do Combines is to prove themselves and to get noticed by colleges and NFL teams. Of course, that is similar in the UK – as a good Combine performance can get you noticed by US colleges and high schools. Most US high schools and colleges will not even look at a player’s game film until they’ve seen some official Combine scores.
However, the main benefit of a DSA Combine is to give you a chance to measure and test yourself against the best of the young talent in the UK football scene. It gives you an honest assessment (in terms of hard facts like your 40 time!) and feedback from some of the best coaches in the UK, so you can then identify and work on your strengths and weaknesses.
