Colchester Gladiators are proud to announce that offensive lineman Ethan Hackett has signed for Hildesheim Invaders in the German Football League.

Hackett, who joined the club in 2017, caught the eye of Hildesheim coach Matt Lefever. Lefever explained his outlook for the upcoming season to Ethan, who was delighted to sign his first semi-pro deal with the German outfit.

Ethan has only been playing American football for 4 years since taking up the sport at the age of 18 after a recommendation by his family’s American relations, instantly falling in love with the sport and showing natural aptitude for it. His play has gone from strength to strength each season. David Crane, the Gladiators chairman and fellow lineman in the trenches with Ethan, said,

“I’m excited to see such a great guy like Ethan get the chance he deserves. Ethan’s game came on leaps and bounds and playing next to him has been great fun! I expect him to do very well in Germany.”

Former Gladiators Head Coach, Luke Box, who also previously worked with Hackett during his time playing for Ipswich, had further praise for Ethan regarding his determination as well as his skill, saying,

“Ethan has all the attributes to become a great offensive lineman. He has the size, toughness and quickness to succeed but, most importantly, the desire to be better. Luckily for Ethan, he joined a very experienced and knowledgeable offensive line that was happy to nurture their new team mate. He was a pleasure to coach.”

All of us at the Gladiators are delighted for Ethan and are looking forward to watching his exploits in Europe. He is obviously hungry for success and we wish him all the best with his new club, but in our eyes Ethan will always be a Gladiator!
