Good Week / Bad Week: BUCS 15/16 Playoffs Round One

Good Week:

Honourable mentions: Cardiff Cobras – bounced back from back to back losses to thump the Saxons out of the promotion hunt.

Nottingham Students

The 4-4 Nottingham side barely scraped into playoffs thanks in part to a number of fixtures falling their way in the final weeks of the regular season… but that hasn’t stopped the guys in green making the most of their shot at promotion!  The previously undefeated UCLan Rams were many’s tip for promotion to the prem north, but it’s clear they were simply not prepared for the feisty former Outlaws who took an early surprise lead. Much like our predictors…urr.. predicted, the Rams fought back to take the lead in the fourth, but for once were unable to hold on as Notts found themselves in the red zone in the final seconds…

Premiership top seeds

This weekend saw all four premiership top seeds run out comfortable winners at their home stadiums… one of them didn’t even have to finish the first half!

Obviously by now we’re all aware of the unfortunate situation in the Hertfordshire from the weekend, and we at DC were happy to hear those involved are all in good health and wish them a swift recovery. Even though it’s never good to see a game cut short, Herts were up by a healthy two-score margin and so far this year Derby have generally shown themselves to first half team so we believe, while not the preferred way to advance for any involved, that the outcome was much the same as it would have otherwise been.

With the top four regular season teams now squaring off in the semis we’re set for a true north/south show down.

Newcastle Raiders

The Raiders run of good form continues as their win streak extends to seven, they knock off the superior-seeded Wolves, and upset our writers picks (though not our detailed prediction!). It wasn’t too many years ago that the Raiders were regular National Title contenders so we could be seeing a return to form for the programme!

Congratulations gents.
