Birmingham Lions: The Lions wrapped up the Prem South with a two point ‘mud bowl’ victory against Kingston.
1. Swansea Titans
The Titans are half way to deservedly calling themselves the best team in Wales; an accolade that they would argue they have held for the past three years. The scoreline ended 13-21 at Filton after Joe Cotterill’s arm talent proved to be a deciding factor in a game where the Titans’ vaunted rushing attack was completely snuffed out. With part two less than seven days away there is no rest break for Swansea, but the knowledge they have ended the Cobras unbeaten streak and defensive holdout will sit nicely for the time being.
2. Surrey Stingers
Not much defence was being played by either side as the Stingers won 40-28, inflicting the Bears’ first defeat of the season. The Stingers have now asserted themselves as the undisputed top team in the South 1A with an offence that continues to rack up the points; the UCLan Rams are the only team to score more in 2015. Surrey look destined to be a serious force in the playoffs.
3. Greenwich Mariners
The most unspectacular 8 and 0 season ever?
The Mariners have gone about their business with stout defence and an offence, which for most of the season ‘just about got the job done’ in every game; and the result of all this has meant that this week Greenwich wrapped up the London 2A title. This Sunday past’s 0-30 whooping of the UEL Titans has put the icing on the cake and the sort of offensive display the Mariners will want to produce in the playoffs.
