Good Week / Bad Week – BUCS Week One

The first week of the BUCS 17/18 season is in the bank – and boy does it appear to epitomise everything we’ve come to expect from a BUCS weekend – withdrawals, rain postponements, blow outs… But also some exceptional balling and nail biting, down-to-the-wire fixtures, all bundled up into Britball’s biggest league system!

It’s pretty bloody awesome.

Good Week

Honourable Mentions:

  • The Plymouth Blitz were the sole promotee to Division One to win their debut fixture in the middle tier.  Brunel came close, in a single score loss to former-Prem Kingston, while Canterbury and the Leeds Gryphons received rude welcomes to Div One balling with heavy defeats.
  • The Durham Saints got their ‘Redemption’ season off to a strong start with a shut out victory over the Loughborough Students.
  • Relegated programmes went 3-0 this past weekend, as each campaigns to return to the tier they called home last year. The Renegades and Titans made convincing statements that they’re already eager to return to Prem and Div One balling respectively, whereas the Cougars held off against a strong challenge from the Burners to start the year 1-0.
  • The Coventry Cougars lit up the Southern half of Opal Two this weekend, posting up a crazy 236 points through three fixtures and maintaining their stranglehold a top the southern conference. Also undefeated, newcomers the Hyde Park Renegades maintain their perfect record with three wins, including an impressive 37-20 victory over the recently returned to Opal, London Warriors.

Predators post first #50Burger of the season

Edinburgh Predators LThe Edinburgh Predators, preseason favourites to take the 2A Borders crown this season, got the year off to a fast start with a statement win over the Pyros. While we saw a good number of games come close to the big 5-0, only the Preds punched up the numbers in Week One.

All-DC Ballers be Balling.

All DC Uniball 16-17 FeatureStirling’s Alex Crowe and Thomas Campbell each racked up scores in their 2017/18 debut. Though Crowe dipped out of the fixture with a possible concussion, Campbell notched up three scores in the season opener.  Herts’ Manny Akala scooped up a fumble for Herts, while Div One All-DCers, Fen Trudgian and Lewis King each led their respective offences to posting up ~40 points on the opening weekend of the season!

And these were just a few of the play makers from the 16/17 All-DC rosters standing out this Sunday!

Titans tee off 2017 in style!

Titans 1280x720 FeatureSpeaking of All-DC Ballers, Sam Huxtable, selected in the Prem roster last year as a flex/WR, was a massive part of a massive upset this weekend, as the Swansea Titans notched up what we already expect is one of the biggest upsets of the season, in Week One!

Huxtable’s contributions?

Passing: 151 yds, 3 Touchdowns and a 2PAT.

Rushing: 124 yds 2 Touchdowns and three 2PAT

Totalling 38 points from the Titans total of 48 points scored against a shellshocked Lions this weekend.

We hadn’t heard many rumblings around the Swansea camp coming into this season, especially after the departure of a good chunk of their coaching staff during the offseason, but the ground’s certainly shaking where the Titan walk after Week One!

But who had a less than ideal start to 2017/18?
