The BUCS season returned with a bang this past weekend, as 22 games took place across the three tiers. As has become customary, however, we also saw our first casualty of the campaign in the run up to the big weekend. Without further ado…
- Forcing 6 turnovers against the Hurricanes’ O is some accomplishment for Bath Killer Bees.
- Portsmouth Destroyers hopped up a tier over the off season, and then put a 24-point shut out on a 15/16 conference champ!
- Nottingham Students lived up to the Division One pre-season billing with a comfortable win.
A hugely entertaining game in Derby saw multiple lead changes in a high scoring affair. Up 9 points deep in the forth, Derby survived a Clansmen touchdown and successful onside kick by snagging the game-ending INT on the following drive, throwing a cat amongst the pigeons early on in the Premier North division.
Following a poor 2015/16 campaign that saw the Redhawks finish with a 3-5 record, Team Solent flew out of the blocks in the newly aligned 1A South West division. Not content with putting up 45 points, the defense shutout UWE Bullets – including 2 safeties, 2 INTs (one pick-six), 8 sacks and a tonne of rookie game time!
What a way to announce yourself to BUCSball! The Vipers, in their debut season, were tied 8-8 at the half in the season opener against ARU Rhinos. A second half blitz followed, as the Vipers amassed 32 unanswered points to race to a 40-8 victory. Welcome, Vipers!
