Hertfordshire Tornadoes Announce New Head Coach

Annaul Sapphire Series standouts, the Hertfordshire Tornadoes, have announced that Russell Begbie will be stepping up to the role of Head Coach ahead of their 2019/20 campaign.

The move follows the departure of Coach Ryan Hargreaves from the Tornadoes, and builds upon the womens team’s partnership with local BAFA National Leagues programme, the Hertfordshire Cheetahs, for whom Begbie coaches offensive line during the summer seasons.

Per HertfordshireCheetahs.com:

Russell Begbie has taken over as the HC of the Hertfordshire Tornadoes with immediate effect, due to the resignation of former HC Ryan Hargreaves for personal reasons.

Upon his unanimous approval from the Executive Committee, Russ said:

”I’m very happy to be taking on the role as HC for the Hertfordshire Tornadoes. Ryan has done a stellar job for the programme since he’s been in charge. He needed to step down as HC but I’m very pleased he is staying on my staff as a positional coach. Having been involved with the sport since 1988 I have a lot of experience with playing and coaching and look forward to the challenge.

I am extremely excited with the up and coming season. We have recruited well so far and retained most of our players from last year including several who represented GB in the European Championships. These are a special bunch and I’m very proud of their enthusiasm and work ethic. I’m very much looking forward to a competitive season.”

We wish Russ and the Tornadoes the best of luck and are sure it’ll be a productive season!
