Kingston Cougars Seek Coaches For Rapidly Expanding Programme

The Kingston Cougars have got in touch with some very exciting news about how they’re working, and succeeding, in growing the game!

Expansion of the Cougars Franchise

In 2011, Kingston University established an American Football programme, the Kingston Cougars following the inception of the ‘single institution rule’ having previously sent players to the University of Surrey to play uniball. The Kingston Cougars have built up one of the most successful university programmes and had a record of 26-4 through ‘Associate’ and first 3 years in the BUCS League to achieve unparalleled success for a new programme. This culminated in a Division One South Championship in 2014/15.

Since then, the Cougars have participated in the Premiership South competing as one of the ten best university teams in the UK.

The coaching committee have been working over the past 18 months to look to increase the potential of American Football for all generations in the South West London and Surrey area to get involved in the game. And in 2017, will be launching brand NEW teams at Youth, Women’s and Senior levels of the game.

Coaches at all levels are actively encouraged to attend BAFCA Convention in May 2017 and in some cases will be mandatory as part of the club’s calendar as a scheduled event.

For Coordinators, Assistant Head Coaches and Head Coaches, BAFCA Level 1 is mandatory and Level 2 would be desirable or at least working towards it.

For Positional Coaches we would ideally like coaches to have their BAFCA Level 1 qualification. For Assistant roles, we would very much welcome those with experience in other sports in either playing or coaching capacity and a strong interest in the game of American Football.

Volunteering Roles

We would love to hear from those new to the sport or waiting to give something back to sport in the community at all levels. Whether that is in a Sporting Capacity (Physio, Team Medic, Strength & Conditioning) or Non Sporting (Photographers, Video Assistants, Equipment Managers, Gameday Managers, Statisticians) we would love to hear from you as well.

How to apply

We will be accepting application for the first round of recruitment until 6pm on Friday 13th January. The interview process will begin Monday 16th January for all roles. Applicants for Head Coaches and Coordinator roles will be required to complete technical analysis in their interview stage.

Please submit your expression of interest with the role (we welcome submission for multiple roles) in the email subject to Nate Wilson and Conan Jal via email CougarsAmericanfootball@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you all a Happy New Year.

2017 – Year of the Cougars 🙂
