The Legends Football League (LFL) is a 7-on-7 women’s tackle league, played in the spring and summer in venues across the US, with a similar format to Arena Football. Originally founded as the Lingerie Football League, the league rebranded in 2013 and recently announced their goal to expand to Europe, with the LFL Nations League of Europe (LFLNLE) set to get underway in 2021.
The inaugural season will feature six national clubs, to include the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Germany, Spain and Belgium, and the LFL have shared that the first UK Open Tryout will take place in 2019 – on Thursday 19 September, in London.
Given the rapid growth of the women’s game in the UK hopes are interest will be high, and expectations are GB might establish themselves as an early powerhouse in the new league!
The trial will be the first step towards establishing a 25-player roster to represent the UK in the inaugural 2021 season.
According to LFL360.com, the goal will then be to expand throughout western and eastern Europe.

(LOS ANGELES, CA – Tuesday, January 8, 2019) Legends Football League (LFL) officials alongside European broadcast, stadium and investment partners are preparing for the September 2021 debut of LFL Nations League of Europe (LFLNLE). The inaugural season will include (6) national clubs to include the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain and Belgium. Expansion throughout Western and Eastern Europe has already been planned for France, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia and Ukraine.
Twenty-five (25) of the top female athletes in each country will represent their country of origin, competing for their National Club, the format, uniform and rule structure will be similar to LFL USA. The inaugural season will include (1) home match and (1) away match for each club with more matches being added in 2022 and beyond. LFLNLE matches will be played at both outdoor stadiums as well as indoor arenas, a complete listing of host venue partners will be released in 2020 as well as ticket packages.
Stadium lease agreements and television carriage negotiations are being finalized over 2019, with the first series of National Open Tryouts being held in August and September 2019. LFL USA athletes and coaches will be provided an opportunity to mentor as well as compete in the inaugural season of LFL Nations League of Europe, as the sport is introduced to Europe.
