Match Report | BAFA ‘NL 19 – Goliaths vs Hunters

The Goliaths showed the focus to win against the Hunters in a pivotal game in the Div 2 North.

The Hunters started the game positively, but settled for the field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

The Goliaths fought back to get the go ahead TD and 2 Pt Conversion. But their lead was short lived as the Hunters responded with a breakaway Rushing TD by Ty Wilson. The missed extra point set up a 9-8 lead.

The Hunters entered the 4th Quarter determined to preserve their lead. The Goliaths forced a key turnover in opposition territory and the 2 point conversion set up a 16-9 lead.

Again, the Hunters responded. Playing with more intent and freedom the Hunters started to click offensively. Runs by Jamie McGuire and Josh Polson set up a series of key receptions by Dom Lewis. RB Josh Polson, burst through on short yardage to take the score to 15-16. The Hunters elected to go for the 1 point conversion. It’s failure, set up a frantic final chapter to the game.

As the Hunters pushed to find a way back, the Goliaths capitalised and extended their lead not once, but twice in the games final moments.

The result keeps the Goliaths playoff hopes alive, in this their first season. The Goliaths were able to turn the tables from the first matchup of the season- winning the respective battle to establish the run and conversely shut down the oppositions rushing attack.

The Hunters focus now moves solely onto the Darlington Steam Sunday 23rd June at The David Keswick centre at 2pm. If your interested in playing, this is a great opportunity to come and see what the team and the sport is all about, and speak to the Coaches after the Game!
