Match Report | BAFA NL ’19 – Steelers vs Mustangs

by Sam Banner

The last of 5 consecutive games for the Steelers was against the Doncaster Mustangs, a team Sandwell had beaten previously in the opening game of the season, 48-0.

Much like the first match up it was a one sided affair starting with an 80 yard kick off return from WR Alex Salterand with a short field RB Raph Chisholm punched it in on 4th & goal for the opening score.

On the following possession Legion of Swag stand out DB Pete Roden got his first of two picks for the day (the other a pick 6 in the second quarter) and once again the Offence were left with a short field and WR Louis Hainesreturned from a week away with another TD to take the score to 14-0.

With another defensive unit choosing a nickname for this season, the defensive line, or “Pitbulls” made their presence known with a tackle for loss from DE Rich Kilvington and the Mustangs stalled again. The “Pitbulls” certainly seemed relentless as they managed a number of tackles for loss and a safety in the second quarter.

WR Austyn Young started the next drive with an enormous catch and run that was sadly stopped short of the goal line, leaving RB Raph Chisholm the opportunity to grab his second score of the game. It ended up a brilliant day for the running backs as rookie RB Tom Czerepaninec got his first TD as a Steeler in the first half taking Sandwell above 50 points at half time for the second week in a row.

However, this week the team didn’t take their foot off the gas and continued to limit the Mustangs and rack up the points even with the mercy rule in full effect. The final score was 66-0 to the home team.
