More Britballers headed to the NFL!

Jermaine Eluemunor discovered the NFL when he switched on the television in his London home and saw the UK’s first regular-season game being played at Wembley Stadium in 2007. Now he is set to be playing in a 2017 Wembley game himself after being selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens, who face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley on Sunday, 23 September, made Eluemunor, an offensive lineman at Texas A & M, the 159th player selected in the draft, fulfilling the dream he has held since persuading his family to move to the United States so that he could play American football.

Speaking before the draft, Eluemunor recalled the moment he fell in love with the sport.

“I was flicking through the TV channels and I came upon the Dolphins and the Giants playing at Wembley,” he said. “I loved the way they were hitting each other, the intensity.”

He becomes the fifth UK-born player currently in the NFL, following the Oakland Raiders’ selection of University of Connecticut’s London-born safety Obi Melifonwu in the second round.
