NEFL | Copenhagen Towers swipe NEFL Victory – head to inaugural European ‘SuperFinal’

While the Tamworth Phoenix were securing their first European victory in impressive fashion over the Oslo Vikings, the other top Northern European Sides were contesting the NEFL title as the Carlstad Crusaders hosted the NEFL title game for the second season in a row -taking on the Copenhagen Towers.

The Phoenix put together an impressive show against the Vikings on Sunday, perhaps for the first time executing to the standards they’ve set for themselves as they marched to a confident 47-20 victory, having led 33-7 at the half.

However, Tamworth experienced far greater troubles in their first two outings, suffering heavy losses against both the Copenhagen Towers over in Denmark, and the visiting Carlstad Crusaders, losing 50-7 and 14-34 respectively.

With the Crusaders and Towers having similarly made short work of the Vikings earlier in the year, this set up what looked like two very evenly-matched fixtures to decide final rankings for the European league.

Still, the Pheonix finally found their phire on Saturday, looking comfortable on their home turf of Pack Meadow and making short work of the Norwegian champs, leaving only the NEFL title game to be decided.

In a spectacle of a shootout the Copenhagen Towers emerged as 2018 champs, fending off an impressive second-half comeback from the Carlstad Crusaders. Having led at the half 30-16, with 3 minutes to go the Towers found themselves trailing by 6, before driving their way down the field for the go-ahead score and conversion!

The Towers will go on to play the Central European Football League (CEFL) Winners, the SWARCO Raiders Tirol in a Superfinal game, later this month.
