NFC2 Final Head Coach Interview – Thompson Sunerton, Glasgow Tigers

Who are you and what’s your coaching background?

Hello I’m Thompson Sunerton I’m the HC of the Glasgow Tigers and this is my first year in the position. I was previously the DC and linebackers coach which was also the same role I had at the Bayside Ravens youth and senior teams in Australia and the 2009 Jnr Queensland Sundevils state team.

How did you get into coaching American Football?

My last few years of playing youth football I was looking for ways to improve and be a better football player so I was reading a lot of books, looking at old film and playbooks and really enjoyed it. So, when I moved up to the Snr team I asked my youth coaches if I could stay on board on help them coach the youth team.

Who’s your coaching hero?

Paul Knight and Steve Box, my first two coaches. They taught me how to play the game and then they taught me how to be a coach. A lot of their core principles on football and being a team, I still use today.

What’s your coaching dream?

Long term would to get back to being on the coaching staff at national level and for the Outback Squad in Australia.

Short term to just continue to develop players and to impart a passion for the sport.
