Dearest Britball Nation,
Fans of our YouTube content will have noticed it’s been a bit quieter of late. While we have some great editors assisting, the majority of our video content comes across my desk, and travelling up to London for the NFL’s Summer Bowl and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Academy meant last week I was ‘on the road’ a fair amount, and less able to edit up content.
We did actually have a full ‘The Scoop’ recorded and just in need of slicing, dicing and prettying up, but my laptop simply wasn’t up to the task of processing it, or the graphics for the video Power Rankings, in a time-effective manner.
Despite DC currently being my full-time vocation, seven days a week of all things Britball is still incredibly time-consuming. Talking to teams, institutions of the game, coordinating #TeamDC’s ever-growing number of contributors – while at the same time trying to find a way to keep DC sustainable from one month to the next? I’m having to be more and more careful about how I spend the one resource DC does have access to at the moment – my time.
Indeed, all in all it’s become apparent that while The Scoop is typically very well received, it hasn’t been getting the viewership it was getting during the University season – despite the summer seasons allowing us to talk about multiple formats of the game.
Even though the end product is a 10-15 minute show, creating The Scoop is a very time-consuming process – research and write a script, record the show, edit the show, etc – this takes the best part of a full day to produce a video that obviously isn’t striking the right chord at the moment.
To that end, The Scoop’s going to be taking a little break. Fans of it need not fear – almost all of its content is available elsewhere in different formats either on dblcoverage.com or on our Facebook page – and my hope is still to see The Scoop return in some form or another at a later date.
In the mean time, I still believe that video content is one of the best ways to create greater awareness of our game.
We’ve got a tonne of content we haven’t had the opportunity to share, and that requires a lot less editing than a full to-camera news show.
Interviews, events, Q&As – I’ll be working to bring more of these to you in the coming weeks than we’ve been able to previously.
At the same time, we’d love to have some input from you guys about what sort of video content, or indeed other forms of content, you’d like to see more of from DC? How do you think we can best devote our time and efforts? At least while DC maintains the capacity to bring you daily content.
At its heart, DC is a community site – so we’d love to know your thoughts on how we can help the community grow!
