Northumberland Vikings part ways with Head Coach

The Northumberland Vikings have confirmed that they have parted ways with journeyman Head Coach, Mike Sholars.

Coach Sholars joined the Vikings with some fanfare ahead of the 2018 season, as the Vikings bucked the trend in British American Football by bringing on board a full-time Head Coach back in January:

As is, rumblings from inside the team seem to point towards the Journeyman Head Coach, who’d previously won five National Championships in four different countries, failing to gel with the programme – either his fellow coaching staff, or the players.

Per the Viking’s statement, BUCS National Championship 2017/18 Head Coach Jonathon Rooney, alongside Kevin O’Reagan and Josh Penny had already taken on much of the coaching responsibilities prior to this weekend’s announcement – including Penny taking the lead for the team’s most impressive outing so far this season, their 38-0 win over the Glasgow Tigers.

The team have now announced Kevin O’Reagan will be stepping up to fill the Head Coach role for the remainder of this season.
