We’re working on lots of other video bits this week so we’re keeping things retro for yet another week!
10. Nottingham Caesars -1
And so it comes down to this.
A 7-0 start to the year for the Caesars is brought low by a couple of very heavy defeats to the newly crowned NFC1South Champions – the Leicester Falcons.
They’re still nominally in a postseason berth, but the only way they’re holding on to it is if they perform to potential in this weekend’s match up.
Pre-season Faves, the Sandwell Steelers, pushed the Caesars mightily in the last meeting between these two teams back in Week Nine – can the Notts side upset the stakes once again and join their Under 19s in the postseason this Sunday?
9. Newcastle Vikings -2
Ouch! The Vikings saw the Titans round out their season in style with a #50Burger performance this past weekend that will have left a few bodies, and egos, rather sore.
They said, with essentially nothing to play for in that fixture, you have to wonder whether the Vikings were fielding first stringers (and if they have the depth at this point of the season to make that choice?).
Either way, the match up that really matters is this weekend’s square off against the Rams – the third meeting between the two teams, with the series tied at 1-1 on the year so far, and the Rams having a slight points advantage in the head to head stakes should the game end tied – as the first meeting between the two sides so nearly did way back in Week Two!
However, it’s essentially win and in for the Vikings and Rams in a crucial battle for the #2 seed in the NFC1North.
8. Solent Thrashers (Re-Entry)
Yup, a second straight loss for the Saints sees them tossed outta the rankings and replaced by the side that just thumped 40 points on them right when it mattered most!
We thought the Thrashers were likely to lag behind in the confusing race for the postseason in the SFC1Central, following heavy losses to both the Saints and Thunder through the middle of the season – but clearly a couple of bye weeks ahead of last weekend’s match up worked wonders and the Thrashers posted up their second best offence performance of the season against an out-of-sorts looking Saints side.
Only the winless South Wales Warriors now stand between Solent and the postseason!
7. Kent Exiles +2
In what has been a confounding year in the SFC1East, the Exiles really helped clear the waters by locking both themselves and the Olympians into the postseason with a narrow victory. Much obliged for the assist guys!
They wrap up the season hosting the Cats on Sunday in a game the Cats will be desperate to win to avoid a possible three-way tie for relegation at the bottom of the conference.
No offence to the Cats, who have ballers on our own staff, but we kinda hope the Exiles edge this one just to keep things interesting right down to the wire!!
6. London Olympians -2
The O’s loss sees them take a tumble. They’re still conference champs but rounding out their regular season with a loss is not a good way to build momentum ahead of the postseason.
Still, an early end to the year gives them a chance to be fully fighting fit ahead of playoffs!
5. Sandwell Steelers =
These guys aren’t even in a playoff berth, yet they sit in the top five of the Div One Rankings?!
Well, for now at least.
They reality is, heading into this weekend’s crucial playoff clinching match up against the Caesars, the Steelers have simply looked on better form.
They come into the game on the back of three straight wins, while the Nottingham side have taken back to back big losses versus the Falcons.
Still, the Steelers were favourites last time these two sides met too.
4. Yorkshire Rams +2
The Rams travelled north of the wall and made short work of the West Coast Trojans – posting up their first #50Burger of the year.
Even so, the fixture that really matters approaches this weekend, with the Rams needing a win or a tie from their trip to the Vikings in order to secure the playoff berth they desire.
3. Sussex Thunder =
The Thunder secure a perfect regular season, while at the same time scuppering the Eagles’ hopes of any postseason balling.
2. Manchester Titans =
Titans wrap up their regular season in style with a #50burger performance against Vikings – a great momentum builder heading into playoffs.
They rest up this Sunday, but will be watching eagerly to learn whether it’s Caesars or Steelers that will be making the trip to them in the first round of playoffs!
1. Leicester Falcons =
No surprises, Leicester stay number one following a second straight comfy win over the Caesars. Their star recruits ahead of this season continue to shine and their march to the NFC1South Crown has looked unstoppable ever since they bested the Steelers back in Week Seven.
Their match up against the Bulls is therefore somewhat meaningless for the Falcons who know they’re hosting either the Rams or Vikings in the postseason, so might a second string Leicester side take the field and give the Bulls an opportunity to save themselves from the drop with a win this weekend?
