Power Rankings | BAFA NL Adult Premiership: Week Nine

Power Rankings are here once again following an exciting Week Nine!

And, as noted we’re doing things differently for 2018!

We’re collating this year’s rankings via a completely new format – polling not only our own BAFA National Leagues team of correspondents but also giving all of our passionate Patreon supporters the opportunity to determine how these rankings stack up!

Each contributor submitted their own picks of who’s top dogs in each tier, and then we tallied it all up to create these amalgamated rankings!

Once again, this new format of selecting the top ten teams in each tier is proving tempestuous!

12. Bury Saints ( = )

Bury’s woes continue with an offensive shutout against the Olympians. We hearing the Saints travelled with barely 20 players which is near-unheard of in the top tier. With four fixtures left of their season, odds are the East Anglian side will be entering survival mode – eager to finish out the season while crucially avoiding a second forfeit that would see them dropped down to associate status.

11. East Kilbride Pirates ( = )

The Pirates had a bye in Week Nine to lick their wounds following a heartbreaking loss to the Wolves. Half their season is behind them, so times running short for the longstanding northern powerhouse if they intend to remain a top tier team for another season…

10. Farnham Knights ( = )

Farnham will be disappointed with the scoreline from their Week Nine trip to Bristol. They opened the game with a score on the first play from scrimmage, but from there onwards couldn’t catch a break against the Bristol outfit and gave up their third #50Burger of the season.

They head to a bye, before a gruelling trip to the Warriors.

9. Merseyside Nighthawks ( Down Two )

Our pollsters apparently have rather short memories, as but a week away from their upset-victory over the Titans the Nighthawks are dropped back down into the #9 spot… Of course, their 62-0 crushing at the hands of the Phoenix may also have something to do with that!

At 1-4 Merseyside have a lot of ground to make up if they want to repeat their playoff appearance of a year ago – starting with a trip to the Edinburgh Wolves this Saturday.

8. London Olympians (Up One)

The Olympians climb a spot following their second win of the season – a 27-2 victory over the struggling Bury Saints. The win more than likely means they’re just one more notch in the W column away from locking up top tier balling for at least another season.

They head to a bye, before hosting the Blitz.

7. Edinburgh Wolves (Down Two)

A weekend away from the field sees the Wolves drop a couple of spots. At 3-2 on the season so far, postseason action is still well within reach.

They host a wounded Nighthawks side this weekend.

6. Bristol Aztecs ( Up Two )

Bristol’s big win over the Knights sees them climb a couple of spots up the rankings. The 62-14 scoreline only emphasises the disparity within the Prem South, with the Aztecs seemingly sat in limbo between the big two London sides, and the rest of the conference.

The Aztecs now have close to a month away from the gridiron, before returning to action with a trip to the Olympians in Week Thirteen.

5. Sheffield Giants (Up One)

Despite not seeing action for a couple of weeks the Giants climb into the top five.

Still, their stay in the upper half of these rankings might be a brief one unless they can put in a strong showing against the Phoenix on Sunday!

4. Manchester Titans ( = )

The Titans earned unanimous votes for the #4 spot in the rankings this week, despite their most recent outing resulting in a loss.

They’re still favourites to see postseason action alongside the Phoenix out of the Prem North, but to do so they’ll want to return to winning ways when they host the Pirates this weekend.

3. London Blitz ( = )

Blitz stay put in number ten.

Undefeated and pretty much unchallenged so far this summer, their season proper starts this Sunday when they host the London Warriors in the first of two crucial games!

2. London Warriors ( = )

Similarly, the Warriors’ season truly starts this Sunday as they travel to their longtime rivals. This fixture will set a tone for the rest of the season and give us our first true insight into who the top dog in the Prem South is!

1. Tamworth Phoenix ( = )

No such confusion in the Prem North as the Phoenix fly high over their rivals. They returned to domestic action with a dominant 62-0 win over the Nighthawks and will look to continue that momentum as they host the Giants on Sunday.
