Pumas Sharpening Their Claws With New Additions to Player and Coach Roster?

The Maidstone Pumas are yet to win a game in 2019, but off the field the club have been working hard to rectify that situation, including with the announcement of several additions to the roster this past week.

In a flurry of activity on their Facebook page, the Pumas shared announcement after announcement of experienced additions to their roster, particularly featuring a number of signings from the BUCS League’s Greenwich Mariners and BAFA NL Division One’s Sussex Thunder.

A particular standout signing is Quarterback Oli DeRuyter, who joined the Pumas having returned from a lengthy injury rehabilitation to play for the SFC 1 Central side, the Thunder,  at the start of this season.

Familiar with what it takes to be part of a team building towards promotion, having done so previously with the Thunder and the Farnham Knights, de Ruyter joins the roster having made the decision to sign with the Pumas to help with the club’s development.

The full list of additions announced this week includes:

Coaching Staff:

  • Ash-Lee James (London Olympians)
  • John Searle Sr (Sussex Thunder)

Player Roster:

  • Oli DeRuyter, QB (Sussex Thunder)
  • John Searle Jr, C (Sussex Thunder)
  • Mark Tooher-Wright, WR (Greenwich Mariners)
  • Ellis Derham, LB (Greenwich Mariners)
  • Billy Abbs, G (Greenwich Mariners)
  • Jacob Eager, WR (Greenwich Mariners)

Though the Pumas have started their season 0-3, they notched up their first points of the summer in their last outing in Week Four against the Sabres, and are eager to show further improvement through their remaining five fixtures – including their Week Six clash with the similarly winless East Kent Mavericks, this Sunday.
