Purcell Returns to Britball – New Romans Defensive Coordinator

The Chester Romans are excited to announce that the vacant adult team defensive coordinator position has been filled by experienced coach, Simon Purcell.

Purcell, who previously reached the Premiership playoffs as the Lancashire Wolverines Head Coach, has had a five-year break from the sport but brings a wealth of experience to the role.

“I’m excited about getting back to football after a few years away from the game,” Purcell said. “Coach Edwards is one of the best young coaches I’ve encountered and the whole set-up of the Romans reminds me of what we built at Lancashire on our route to Prem football. I have high ambitions for the Romans defence in 2020 and I’m recruiting coaches to join me on the defensive side of the ball so get in touch if you have a passion for creating great football players”

Along with a successful coaching role at Lancashire, Purcell has also coached with the GB Lions juniors in the past and organised BAFCA Coaching Clinics throughout the North West.

“I’m extremely excited about this addition to our program,”

Head Coach, Levi Edwards added.

“Coach Purcell brings with him a wealth of experience at every level of the game in this country and that experience will undoubtedly prove invaluable to our program this season. His addition is another key piece of our structural rebuild and I’m excited for the opportunity to coach alongside and learn from him moving forward.”
