Ryan Baker handpicked as new Offensive Coordinator for Sandwell Steelers

There’s been a range of changes this offseason at the Sandwell Steelers, with the appointment of a new Head Coach, Maxwell Petitjean, earlier in the Autumn.

Following Coach David Butler stepping down from his role at Offensive Coordinator, the Steelers have announced his replacement in the form of Coach Ryan Baker, whose range of experience at an international level with the GB Lions programmes should ensure the Steelers offence is looking sharp next season.

Per SandwellSteelers.com:

The club are delighted to announce the appointment of Ryan Baker, who Coach Butler has handpicked to become the successor at the helm of the Steeler’s offence.

For those that know little of Coach Baker, he comes to the programme with an extensive coaching background and skillset to match.

During Coach Baker’s involvement in the sport, he’s played for numerous Midlands teams including the Tamworth Phoenix, where he won a Division One title.

Following his playing retirement in 2010 Coach Baker has gone on to coach for various programmes including numerous levels of the Great Britain set-up, and has coached alongside the IFAF (International Federation of American Football) programme.

Here’s what Ryan had to say about joining the #SteelerFamilia:

“First of all I want to say how excited I am about joining the #SteelerFamilia. I’d like to thank Max, Greg and Dave for being instrumental in bringing me to the programme.

“I am extremely excited to get to work with some great coaches and players. I really hope that I can add substantial value to what is being built here and help build a dynamic offense that can contribute to a successful future for the Steelers.”

Following the appointment here’s the lowdown from HC Petitjean:

“With the season fast approaching, it’s important to lockdown the senior coaching staff as soon as possible.

“The appointment of Ryan as OC is first class. Having known him for quite some time, I can testify to the strong work ethic and superior skills he will bring. I am really looking forward to seeing what Coach Baker can do with the offence.”

The club would like to thank Dave for all of his hard work since joining in 2014. Whilst at the club, Coach Butler guided the team to numerous victories, two conference titles and a Division Two championship.
