Sheffield Giants to Cycle Coast to Coast in Support of The Children’s Hospital Charity

Three members of the Sheffield Giants American Football club will be heading out on a gruelling challenge  – tackling the 170 mile Coast to Coast bike ride from Morecambe Bay in Lancashire on the West Coast to Bridlington on the East Coast in just two days!

As if that wasn’t challenging enough for three people averse to cardio, the trio of ballers are going to be completing it in full American Football kit!

With Bicycles kindly loaned by ReCycle Bikes in Sheffield, Giants Harry O’Neill, Josh Allen and Sam Broughton are raising funds and aware in aid of the Sheffield programme’s charity partner, the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity (TCHC).

Having already smashed their original £1000 goal, the trio have raised their sights to a £1500 target and are hoping the amazing Britball Nation can also lend its support to this incredibly worthy cause.

Those interested can contribute directly via the team’s JustGiving page, or lend support by sharing the page via social media and word of mouth!

One of the three brave cyclists taking part, Harry O’Neill told DC how the idea for the fundraising activity was spurred by the trio looking to stay in shape during the offseason:

From then we put plans in place to sneak it into the pre-season 2019 and now here we are… praying for no snow and that our legs last!

Originally we’d planned for three days but the competitive side of us came out and we’ve dropped it to two which… from what we’ve heard is tough in cycling gear never mind American Football pads!

I was really pleased to be able to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital Charity – they’ve always meant a lot in my family so to be able to raise a chunk of money for them personally is great.

Although there’s part of me that’s dreading the physical and mental challenge, I know it’s going to feel like an amazing accomplishment for us all! (Though I might have to ask Sam and Josh to let me hide in their slipstream!)”

TCHC help fund life-saving equipment, vital research and create a comfortable, engaging environment for the children in the hospital in Sheffield and it’s a cause the Sheffield Giants are proud to support, Harry, Josh and Sam bearing the charity’s logo on their game jerseys.
