Smallworths Step Away From Sharks

The Cornish Sharks have shared word that Head Coach Brian Smallworth and wife Sharon, who’ve held key roles with the Sharks for over 14 years, have stepped away from the programme.

Though not explicitly stated as such, the move follows concerns raised by satirical news social media outlet Daily Britball.

In a brief statement from the Sharks committee, Chairman Laura Bonner expressed their thanks for the contributions made by the Smallworths to the programme, and stated that in the interim Richard Atkinson would step up into the role of Acting Head Coach heading into the 2020 season.

Coach Smallworth is also a Director Without Portfolio for the British American Football Coaches Association, with Sharon similarly assisting BAFCA with marketing and PR since Coach Smallworth’s appointment to the board.

The Cornish Sharks committee shared:

“Brian and Sharon Smallworth have taken the decision to step away from the Cornish Sharks.

The club would like to thank them both for everything that they have done for the Sharks over the past 14 years.

Richard Atkinson has taken on the role of Acting Head Coach and the club looks forward to the 2020 season under his leadership.

We would like to wish Brian and Sharon the very best for their future plans.

Laura Bonner, Chair
