The Royals Wear The Crown – Worcester are 2A South West Champions!

The Worcester Royals made history this past Sunday, securing the team’s first-ever conference title as their nail-biting overtime victory against the Bristol Barracuda sealed the deal on the 2A South West Crown, and promotion back to Division One football following relegation at the end of the 16/17 BUCS season.

The Royals’ road to success was far from easy – three of Worcester’s wins so far this season have come by a score or less, but in their first year since being shifted sideways into the South West conference the Royals have simply found whatever way they need to, to be able to win.

Whether it be the day one shoot out against the Lancers, their high-scoring outings against Bath Spa and Gloucester, or their tough, grinding duels through the latter half of their campaign, the Royals have found ways to earn the W week in, week out.

They wrap up their season against the OBU Panthers in Week Twelve, with the opportunity to secure the programme’s first-ever undefeated regular season – a huge step forwards for a team that struggled mightily through its early campaigns in the old BCAFL-era powerhouse, the MAC conference.
