#U19 National Plate Head Coach Interview – George Lees, Nottingham Caesars

Who are you and what’s your coaching background?

My name is George Lees. I am 23 years old and I have been the Head Coach of the Nottingham Caesars Juniors for the last three seasons. Before that, I had one season as an assistant coach under Nottingham Caesars Juniors previous Head Coach, Matt Walker.

How did you get into coaching American Football?

I played for the Caesars Juniors for four seasons. I chose to take a year out of playing after that due to an injury and here I am four years later.

Who’s your coaching hero?

My coaching hero is Richard Albert “Dick” Vermeil, any coach that can win a Super Bowl with the Rams is a legend in my eyes.

What’s your coaching dream?

My coaching dream would be to coach High School football in the U.S.A. I would love to win a Britball first though!!

What’s the single most important quality for a British American Football coach, in your opinion?

This is tough as I have a very unorthodox coaching style. If I had to choose it would be to have a ‘thick skin.’ You need to be able to focus on the Football and the player’s development and not the politics that often surrounds the British game and the clubs involved.

And now the quick fire round! Answer as quickly as possible, we trust you to be honest 😉
