The University of Nottingham American Football team made history this past weekend, becoming the first team since the move to the BUCS American Football leagues to secure a Premiership Conference title in their first year since promotion to the tier*.
The Nottingham team defeated previous four-time National Champions, the Stirling Clansmen, to lock up their place atop the Northern half of the top tier, their 27-7 victory moving the Green and Gold to 7-0, and uncatchable by any of their rivals following Leeds’ loss to Durham earlier in the week.
The victory makes it three-straight conference titles for Nottingham, who first won the 1A Midlands title in the 16/17 following an overhaul of the University’s investment in their American Football programme that has revolutionised the one-time middle-of-the-pack programme into a team that looks likely to contest its first-ever National Title this spring!
Nottingham wrap up their regular season against Leeds Beckett Carnegie this Sunday, with the opportunity to also make it three-straight undefeated regular seasons if they defeat a Carnegie outfit they bested by a mere point earlier in the season.
*Not including those teams that were in the Premiership tier the first year it was utilised.
