Lions Add International Talent to Ranks Ahead of Sapphire Series

Though they’re far more familiar with members of their own roster taking trips abroad to play in the well-established Finnish Women’s Leagues, this week the Birmingham Lions shared they’ve made an international signing of their own as Hanna Kuisma of the Mikkeli Bouncers joins the Lions roster right ahead of the Sapphire Series getting underway this weekend!

As the Lions look to defend their Sapphire title, the programme has made some brave moves over the offseason - opting to field two rosters in this iteration of the women’s full contact seven-a-side series.  While the Lions mount a defence of their title in the Sapphire 1 South, the Birmingham Lions B will also compete in the Sapphire 2 North for the very first time.

As such, the addition of this international talent will bring an immediate boon to the Birmingham roster, Kuisma an experienced player on both sides of the ball, as well as boasting special teams experience from the Finnish leagues the Lions may look to learn from.

The Lions shared highlights of their new signing’s summer in Finland with the Bouncers:
